Agboola Ajayi, the Deputy Governor of Ondo state wants to become the running mate of Eyitayo Jegede, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party for the Ondo State Gubernatorial election.

Ajayi is making the move after failing to become the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in a fierce – and bloody – gubernatorial election.

The Deputy Governor defected from the All Progressives Congress to contest the PDP gubernatorial primary.

He retains his seat as the Deputy Governor after Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s effort to impeach him hit a brick wall.

Sources disclosed to societynow.ng that ‘’Agboola’s defection’’ to the PDP is now being used against him in his efforts to become the running mate of Jegede.

‘’The claim is that he can’t be trusted to be loyal to Ejegede, especially because he contested the Gubernatorial primary and was accused of employing winning at all cost strategies, including violence’’ Societynow.ng learned.

Insiders disclosed that the ‘’issues and allegations’’ that forced Ajayi out of APC are playing up against him.

Sources disclosed that the theme of the campaign against Ajayi becoming the running mate of Jegede is that ‘’he has exhibited traits of desperation to become Governor and these are not good signals.’’

Insiders, however, disclosed that those pushing for Ajayi to become Jegede’s running mate premise their campaign on the electoral value of the Deputy Governor which played a vital role in the victory that handed re-election seeking Governor Rotimi Akeredolu his first term in office.
