The checks made by societynow.ng revealed that the local council is always filled with those seeking to do NIN registration.

‘The people are given a tally number of a sort but the issue is that the council workers claim that the numbers given out is so much that they need to attend to those people before given out any number again, but those who are willing to jump the process are offered a backdoor way with the illegal fees” information at hand revealed.

The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC staff and council workers are said to be working hand in glove in the “deal”.

Societynow.ng learned that as of Monday, January 4, 2021, the going rate for walk-ins is N15,000 (Fifteen Thousand Naira) for two people to be attended to within twenty-four hours and N10,000 (Ten Thousand Naira) for the same number of people within two days (Forty-Eight hours).

“Close to N10,000 (Ten Thousand Naira) is demanded from a single person for same period person depending on negotiating power” societynow.ng learned.

Insiders disclosed slightly lesser fees are demanded from those who come through referrals based on the strength of the influence of the persons serving as the link.

The added information available to societynow.ng revealed that as of December 2020 when the rush for the National Identity Number registration got underway – and all through the yuletide – the fees demanded from a single person was barely five thousand Naira (N5,000).

The government on December 22 extended the deadline for telecommunication companies to block telephone numbers not linked to National Identity Numbers by six weeks.
