How Kaduna’s $200m Poultry Project Is Set To Transform Food Security and Agribusiness
position the state as a continental hub for modern agribusiness.
Governor Uba Sani says Kaduna State is on the cusp of a major agricultural breakthrough as the government moves toward concluding a landmark $200 million poultry project designed to reshape food production, strengthen food security, and position the state as a continental hub for modern agribusiness.
Speaking after an official visit to Beijing at the invitation of the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the governor said his tour of CP Foods Layers and Eggs (Beijing) Ltd. offered a clear picture of what disciplined innovation and long-range planning can unlock for Kaduna and Nigeria. The Beijing facility, which produces nearly three million eggs daily, operates with a precision he described as “agriculture elevated into an exacting craft,” with harmonised systems running from production to packaging and distribution.
According to him, the insights gained from the visit are now feeding directly into Kaduna’s $200 million poultry initiative, a joint venture with Chinese partners aimed at boosting output and embedding advanced technology into the state’s agro-industrial structure. He said the project would not only enhance food security but also broaden the state’s industrial base and create sustainable jobs for thousands of residents, adding that it has the potential to become one of Africa’s most sophisticated poultry operations.
The governor was accompanied by a senior federal delegation led by Joseph Tegba, Director-General of the Nigeria–China Strategic Partnership, whose involvement he credited for helping the project mature into a viable bilateral undertaking. He also visited Beijing Doudian Yisheng Halal Meat Industry Co., Ltd., which he described as one of the most advanced abattoir complexes in the world, noting that its operations will inform Kaduna’s efforts to revitalise livestock production and integrate global best practices across its value chains.
Governor Sani expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting Kaduna State with the transformative pilot initiative and praised the Chinese government for its ongoing confidence and partnership.
He said the project marks a decisive step toward securing Kaduna’s food future and setting a new standard for agribusiness across the continent.
