Governor Duoye Diri has begged traders not to capitalize on the flood crisis ravaging Bayelsa State.

The Governor made the plea in a meeting with traders at the state capital, Yenagoa over the rising prices of foodstuffs.

The meeting was held at the Government House.

Prices of foodstuffs in Bayelsa are on the rise as an aftermath of the flood that ravaged the state.

The Governor appealed to traders “to show kindness and love” insisting that “this is not the time to make an unnecessary profit.”

Governor Duoye also announced the state government has set up a committee on food supply with the Principal Secretary at the Government House, Iriridamie Komonibo as Chairman.

SocietyNow.Ng gathered that before his meeting with traders, the governor met with the leadership of different petroleum products dealers at the Government House.

“We have resolved at this meeting that prices of petroleum products be reversed to government approved prices. We will also make arrangements to bring the products into the State.” the Governor summed up the outcome of the meeting in a report monitored by SocietyNow.Ng on Bayelsa Government New Media platform.

Before these happenings, the State Government refuted reports that it has received N150 million support fund from the Federal Government.

The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Maxwell Ebibai explained that “Treasury is not in receipt of any funds from the Federal Government. The N450million released is solely state funds. But when and if such support comes, we will acknowledge it in line with our transparency agenda.”
