The profile of Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, the lawmaker representing Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency, is gaining renewed traction in the build-up to the 2027 Ogun governorship race.

Popularly known as GNI, Isiaka has long been a central figure in the agitation for Ogun West — the only zone yet to produce a governor — to take its turn at the state’s top seat.

Although this is his fourth attempt, GNI’s chances has been overshadowed – in recent time – by the towering influence of Senator Olamilekan Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate and remains the frontrunner.

Yayi, as Adeola is widely called, has been cultivating his political base since 2013, giving him a head start in grassroots mobilisation.

However, recent developments appear to have given Isiaka’s ambition a lift. Within days, he received back-to-back recognitions — first, an Award of Recognition from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), followed by the Public Voice Award from the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Chapter, during its Journaliganza (Asale Asa) 2025 Press Week Dinner and Awards.

The twin honours have bolstered his visibility and provided his supporters with fresh momentum to project him as a credible contender within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Political observers note that Isiaka, who maintains a cordial relationship with Governor Dapo Abiodun, may be positioning himself as a unifying figure capable of balancing party interests ahead of the 2027 polls.

GNI was recognized by NUJ along with Ogun state deputy governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu and Senator Lekan Mustapha.

“Together, we build an Ogun State that is informed, accountable, and driven by shared purpose”, he declared after receiving the honour.
