Emerging details have it Ogun state commissioner for commerce, Abimbola Ashiru is still very much in the race to become the governor of Ogun state.

“Take his silence for withdrawal at your own risk” one of his main backers told a politician supporting another aspirant recently.

Checks revealed rather than quit from the intense gubernatorial race, Ashiru is currently consolidating his grip on the political terrain of Ogun state with quiet but deft bridge building beyond his base.

Societynow gathered his supports are also hard at work correcting all brickbats of inadequacies thrown up by the opposition when he was announced the adopted candidate of Ogun East.

The huge attraction the decision – by elders of Ogun East – that made him “adopted candidate” of the region garnered resulted in a storm of political reaction that forced Ashiru, a serving commissioner in the administration of Governor Ibikunle Amosun to announce “a withdrawal from the race” and “align” with Amosun open declaration of supporting the agitation of Ogun West to produce the next governor.

Since then Ashiru had stayed off the radar and “mute” about all things.

But those who should know insist the public posture by the commissioner is “political”.

He is believed to have made the announcement in order not to further “heat up’ the already tensed political situation in Ogun state.

“But that doesn’t mean he has sacrificed his gubernatorial ambition…far from it, consultation with relevant stakeholders to gain their support ahead the crucial moment is still very much on” a source stated emphatically.

Ashiru refuses to comment on the details available at press time.
