INEC: No Reaffirmation Of David Mark-Led ADC Leadership, Poster Is Fake

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has dismissed as fake a poster circulating on social media claiming that it had reaffirmed the leadership of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, led by former Senate President, David Mark.

The Commission said the publication did not originate from it, warning members of the public against relying on the information being circulated online.

INEC, in a statement, said the poster and accompanying text falsely suggested that it had formally reaffirmed the David Mark-led leadership of the opposition party.

“For the avoidance of doubt, INEC has issued no such reaffirmation,” the Commission stated.
It also disowned the use of its logo and the image of its National Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna, in the publication, describing their appearance in the circulating material as unauthorised.

“The said poster did not originate from the Commission. The use of INEC’s logo and the image of the National Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna, in the said publication is unauthorized,” it said.

The electoral body urged Nigerians to disregard the publication in its entirety and avoid sharing information that could mislead the public about its position on the ADC leadership dispute.

It advised members of the public to rely only on information published through its official and verified communication channels.

The clarification comes amid heightened public attention on the leadership dispute within the ADC, with the party’s leadership and its political implications attracting considerable interest.

INEC’s statement, however, made no fresh pronouncement on the substantive leadership dispute, but specifically denied issuing the purported reaffirmation being attributed to it.
