Details: Police Invites Labor Leaders Over Workers Strike Against Dapo Abiodun’s Govt
The police have waded into the industrial faceoff between workers and the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun in Ogun State.
The workers union made this development known with a statement that reads
The organised labour in the state was invited this afternoon by the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun to a meeting at the Eleweeran Headquarters of Nigerian Police.
In attendance at the meeting were the Director of DSS and other top echelon of the Police in the state .
CP Ajogun who told the organised labour leaders that the Police and the security personnel in the state are not unaware of the imbroglio ongoing between the state government and the organised labour which has led to this 7-day warning strike . He went further to ask the leadership of the organised labour what is the way out so that he can convey the message to the state government .
Reacting, the leadership of organised labour in the state comprising JNC Chairman Comrade Folorunso Abiodun, NLC Chairman Comrade Emmanuel Bankole and TUC Vice Chairman Comrade Akeem Lasisi unequivocally said they have shifted their position enough to the extent that workers in the state are now calling them unprintable names and they are ready to stone them hence the need to stand firm . They told the Comissioner of Police that at the negotiation méeting it became obvious that the state government was not ready to pay the already negotiated and signed minimum wage to the workers .
The meeting took a different dimension when the Police leadership started pleading with the organised labour leaders to shift their position so that they will report to the government so as to guarantee industrial harmony in the state
However, the organised labour told the Police leadership in clear terms that the minimum wage is not negotiable and the payment must commence this September or nothing .
At the end, the meeting ended with a promise from the organised labour to go about the strike action in a peaceful manner .
