President Bola Tinubu has sent a stirring message of support to the Super Falcons ahead of their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final against host nation Morocco in Rabat tonight.

Describing the team’s journey as “awe-inspiring,” the President praised the players for their patriotism, discipline, and sportsmanship, noting that they have represented Nigeria with “pride, honour, and strength” throughout the competition.

“You stand at the cusp of history,” Tinubu told the players in a personal statement issued on Wednesday. “Unbeaten in the group stages, victorious in the knockout rounds, and conceding only a goal in the semi-finals — if statistics alone win matches, you are already champions.”

He highlighted a touching moment when members of the team visited Gabriela Salgado of South Africa’s Banyana Banyana following their semi-final clash, calling it “a simple act of compassion” that reflects Africa’s shared humanity and deep sense of sisterhood.

With the Super Falcons aiming to secure a record tenth continental title, Tinubu assured the team of the country’s unwavering support and prayers.

“On behalf of a grateful nation, we are rooting for you and praying for your resounding success tonight,” he said. “You will finish strong by the Grace of God. Go for the tenth! Bring the trophy home.”

To further demonstrate the federal government’s backing, Tinubu announced the dispatch of a presidential delegation to the final in Rabat. The delegation includes Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy; Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister of State for Finance; Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, Minister of Women Affairs; and Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, among others.

The President also expressed appreciation to the Super Falcons’ families, coaching crew, Nigerian supporters in Morocco, the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, and the Nigerian Mission in Morocco for standing firmly behind the team during the competition.

Tinubu concluded with an expression of hope and anticipation: “I look forward to receiving the team, the trophy, and the officials in Abuja.”
