Former Bayelsa East Senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, has declared his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing his move as one borne out of conviction rather than politics.

The businessman and media entrepreneur said his choice was inspired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership style, economic vision, and courage to implement difficult but necessary reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria for lasting prosperity.

Murray-Bruce, who traced his relationship with Tinubu back to 1998, said he had come to understand the President’s mind, courage, and conviction over the years. According to him, Tinubu is not driven by applause but by results, and his current economic direction proves that he is “on the right track.”

He hailed the President as the first in Nigeria’s history who truly understands finance, describing his administration’s reforms as painful but essential for future prosperity. “The painful reforms we face today are the very foundation of tomorrow’s prosperity,” he said, adding that Nigeria is now moving towards a free-market economy that rewards hard work and innovation instead of dependency and distortion.

Highlighting recent policy changes, the former senator praised the administration’s approach to national security, noting that the appointment of the National Security Adviser has redefined Nigeria’s safety architecture. He said insecurity was being quietly and systematically dismantled, while the Central Bank, now under professional leadership, is stabilizing the economy, restoring investor confidence, and rebuilding the dignity of the naira.

Murray-Bruce also lauded the government’s foreign policy direction, deregulation of the fuel sector, and infrastructural development drive, describing them as signs of a new era for Nigeria. He noted that roads, ports, airports, and housing projects across the nation are not merely structures but the arteries through which growth and opportunity now flow.

While acknowledging the current economic difficulties faced by many Nigerians, he urged patience, stressing that reforms of such magnitude often come with short-term pain but long-term gains. “It is in these moments of sacrifice that nations are reborn,” he stated.

Declaring his allegiance, Murray-Bruce said he was joining the APC “not for politics, but for progress,” expressing faith in Tinubu’s intellect and vision to deliver the Nigeria of collective dreams. “Mark my words: in the full term of eight years, Nigeria will witness phenomenal growth. I choose to stand with that vision. I choose to stand with reform. I choose to stand with the future,” he said.

He ended his declaration with a message of optimism and unity: “Thank you, and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
