Bayelsa, Trinidad And Tobago In Areas Of Oil & Gas, Power, Others

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri today received in audience, Ambassador Wendell De Landro, High Commissioner of Trinidad and Tobago to Nigeria at Government House, Yenagoa.

Ambassador De Landro said his visit to Bayelsa State was to seek partnership between the state government and the government of Trinidad and Tobago in oil and gas, power, air and marine transportation, culture and tourism.

In his remarks, Gov. Diri thanked the High Commissioner and his team for visiting Bayelsa State to seek bilateral ties.

The Governor assured of his administration commitment of collaborating with the government of Trinidad and Tobago to enhance socio-economic development in Bayelsa State.

“You have touched on issues that have been affecting our lives since the discovery of oil and gas. As you are aware, that Nigeria is an oil and gas country is because of Bayelsa State. 

I can assure you that this relationship we are going to establish today, will change the story of Bayelsa State. We will provide the enabling environment for this partnership to thrive. The natural resources and expertise is here. There should be nothing holding us back in this relationship. 

I would like us to have a direct relationship between Bayelsa state and Trinidad and Tobago. We have the autonomy to go into bilateral ties with your country and the companies that would come in to execute. 

Our team will be ready to meet your team so that we can expedite action on this new relationship. The eco-industrial park is there to explore and expand. Let us look at the economic space of Bayelsa which has been in oil and gas, which has not actually benefited the people of the state. Maybe this is the time for us to benefit.

So,let me on behalf of the government and people of Bayelsa State, welcome you wholeheartedly to Creek Haven, Yenagoa,”~Gov. Diri stated.

Among those at the courtesy visit were the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrujakpo, Secretary to Bayelsa State Government, Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, Chief of Staff Government House, Dr. Peter Akpe, Deputy Chief of Staff Government House, Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo, Commissioners and other top government functionaries.
