Lagos Declares October 15 ‘A Day Without Horn’, Officially Opens One Stop Vehicle Registration Centre

Lagos state government has declared Wednesday October 15 2014 as ‘ a day without horn’. The Babatunde Fashola led administration equally declared open a centre that caters for all the registration needs of motorists as well as provision of a temporary vehicle tag.

The Lagos State Government has declared Wednesday. October 15, 2014 as a day that motorists in the state will be discouraged from hooting their car horns or siren while driving.

Tagged ‘A Day Without Horn’, Gov. Babatunde Raji Fashola made the declaration yesterday at the official commissioning of One-Stop Centre and Formal Launch of Temporary Vehicle Tag where he decried the unnecessary use of horn by motorists in the state. 

He attributed the incessant hoot on Lagos road to impatience, and said the voluntary programme was to reduce noise pollution, engender safer roads, safer drivers and safer community.

Speaking on the new One-Stop Centre and the Temporary Vehicle Tag, the governor commended the Commissioner for Transport, Comrade Kayode Opeifa for the initiative describing the state government’s achievement in the management of transportation sector as ‘the eighth wonder of the world’.

He said: ” This One-Stop Centre and the Temporary Vehicle Tag is another milestone in our journey in managing Lagos transport sector. Managing transportation in Lagos to this stage is like the eighth wonder of the world. People are buying vehicles every day, and it takes a lot of efforts and commitment to manage it.

“The One-Stop Centre and Temporary Vehicle Tag is to engender an effective and efficient service delivery. It is a service delivery point where vehicle registrations, drivers’ licence and renewal, plate numbers and everything that has to do with drivers and vehicles are done without delay.”

In his own remark, the Commissioner for Transport, Comrade Opeifa who announced that five more centres will be built across the state, said the Temporary Vehicle Tag was to reduce unregistered vehicles’ attraction to armed robbers.

” With the Temporary Vehicle Tag, no car would ply the state’s roads without identification as newly bought car from the point of purchase would be given a tag to identify it, and the identification details will be in the state database.’
