Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has urged residents of the state to continue to embrace peace, saying progress and development can only thrive in a peaceful environment.

Fubara made the call on Saturday, October 25, 2025, during a civic reception held in honour of his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, by the Akabuka community in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area.

The governor, who recently returned to office after a six-month suspension that followed a political rift with his predecessor and estranged ally, Nyesom Wike, said the state had turned a new page of reconciliation and unity.

He assured the people of Akabuka that his administration would not neglect their community in its development plans, announcing that work would begin immediately on internal roads and the rehabilitation of Government Secondary School, Akabuka.

“My only request is simple: let us continue to choose peace. Where there is peace, progress follows,” Fubara said, appealing to residents to sustain the spirit of calm that has defined the state in recent weeks.

He thanked the Akabuka community for standing firmly behind their daughter, the deputy governor, during the political turbulence, and reaffirmed his commitment to rebuilding trust across the state’s political and communal lines.

“We will walk this journey together in unity, respect, and shared purpose for a better Rivers State,” he added.

Fubara’s renewed emphasis on peace comes as he continues efforts to consolidate his authority and restore stability following the high-profile reconciliation that brought him back to office after months of political tension.
