2027: Untrue – APC Speaks On Alleged Plan To Drop Shettima As Tinubu’s Running Mate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports suggesting that Vice-President Kashim Shettima may be dropped as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general election, describing the claims as speculative, untrue and baseless.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, Felix Morka, national publicity secretary of the party, said the APC had observed a growing media frenzy around the issue, which recently escalated with the circulation of names of individuals allegedly being considered as replacements for Shettima.

Morka said the party states “in categorical terms” that there is no truth to the reports, urging media organisations to refrain from amplifying rumours and what he described as mischievous narratives from sources of “questionable provenance”.

He noted that under Nigeria’s electoral laws and regulations, a ban on political activities remains in force, stressing that the party is not engaged in discussions around the 2027 ticket at this time.

According to him, the APC is currently focused on supporting Tinubu and Shettima in delivering the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, including reforms aimed at transforming the economy, building prosperity and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.

The party also cautioned ministers, senior government officials and party leaders against actions or comments that could fuel unnecessary speculation, whether deliberately or inadvertently.

Morka said officials should concentrate on their primary responsibility of diligent service to the government and the party, and on consolidating and projecting the achievements of President Tinubu, whom he described as an “inimitable and visionary leader”.
