Why Workers Are Falling Over Themselves For Lagos Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab

Though he appears to be saddled with an unwanted task, Lagos Commissioner Tokunbo  Wahab is seeing many falling over themselves to support him.

Wahab is the Commissioner in charge of the Ministry of Environment.

The 51-year-old has taken the task of ridding the state of all unpleasantries as it relates to his job functions by the horn.

Some of the tough decisions taken so far have resulted in the closure of popular markets, shopping malls, and places of leisure in low-cost and highbrow areas for environmental offences, the dismantling of illegal structures in trading places and on drainage systems, and a total clampdown on street trading among others.

SocietyNow.Ng’s checks revealed that Wahab has refused to hide behind aides in carrying out these tasks but staying at the front and shielding the workers by taking responsibility in case of any pushback.

“He has refused to stay in his office giving orders but opted to be on site with the men for first-hand assessments of the situation, even on weekends and this has gingered all hands to be on deck in giving him desired support” SocietyNow.Ng learned.

The actions of dismantling illegal structures and closure of markets and related places of earnings no matter how valid the reasons are, usually decorated with controversies of taking away the living of some persons amid challenging economic situation.

 Decision-makers usually shy away  or give half-hearted effort to avoid the possible backlash that may take any form, but Wahab has remained undaunting insisting “to keep Lagos clean, safe, and healthy, We must be deliberate in our approach.”

Insiders insist, that the Commissioner is putting himself out there to drive home his point has really encouraged the workers to also put their backs into getting the work done.

Overall the Commissioner is said to be driven by the objective to put in place ” secure a clean, healthy and sustainable environment, that promotes tourism, boosts economic growth and enhances the overall well-being of the citizens” as part of the Lagos State policy thrust of “Poverty Eradication and Sustainable Economic Growth through Infrastructure Renewal and Development.”

Added investigation revealed that many are not surprised by the zeal Wahab has brought to bear in his new mandate.

Though he was the Special Adviser on Education in Governor  Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s first term, he brought so much value across board that he was given the moniker “Mr Fix It“.

And education ended up being a major value-adder to the Governor’s first-term
