Tokunbo Wahab has emerged talk of the town.

Wahab, 51, is the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment.

He was one of the major influences that contributed in no small measure to the success of the first term of Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the Governor of Lagos State.

Though he operated under the emblem of Special Adviser on Education and helped turn the sector into a major achievement, Wahab’s interventions were more far-reaching and earned him the Mr Fix It appelation.

And in what appeared appreciation of his deeds in the first- term, Wahab is part of Sanwo-Olu’s second term in the elevated position and has taken off with immediate impact information available to SocietyNow.Ng revealed.

He has started off taking the tough decisions that will help him achieve the primary objective “to secure a clean, healthy and sustainable environment, that promotes tourism, boosts economic growth and enhances the overall well-being of the citizens”.

The decisions taken after on-the-spot assessments include clearing of shanties and illegal structures with Orile – Iganmu – Mile 2 underneath the bridge that links Festac after Alakija as starting points with Iyana Iba, Alaba Ojo, and other parts of Lagos State on the line.

The move is in the face of the mandate by the Commissioner for Environment that LAWMA ( Lagos Waste Management Authority) clear all illegal dumpsites along the routes SocietyNow.Ng learned.

Added checks by SocietyNow.Ng revealed that the Lagos state cabinet member who asserts that “to keep Lagos clean, safe, and healthy, We must be deliberate in our approach” has also directed the clearing of drainages and construction of canals across the state.

And insists that these exercises “will be sustained across the state until normalcy is restored.”

The seriousness of purpose adopted by the commissioner, going as far as clearing illegal markets in highbrow Magodo as part of efforts to rid the state of such in other areas, has caught the attention of many and turned him into the talk of the town.

Wahab, a former student union leader and president of the Law Students Union of the University of Benin, a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Bar Association, and an Alumnus of the prestigious Harvard Kennedy School of Government and the Wharton University of Pennsylvania resumed as the Lagos state Commissioner for on Monday, September 18, 2023.
