Osun Guber: IGP Names DIG Ishyaku Mohammed To Oversee Security

Ahead of the Osun State Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has deployed Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Ishyaku Mohammed, to coordinate security operations across the state.The deployment, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, is part of operational measures to ensure a peaceful, secure, and credible electoral process.
DIG Mohammed will oversee the Police component of the election-security arrangement while collaborating with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).
To guarantee maximum operational efficiency, he will be supported by Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) deployed across the state’s three senatorial districts to strengthen intelligence-led policing and respond swiftly to emerging threats.
The Force assured that comprehensive security measures have been instituted to protect voters, INEC officials, election materials, polling units, collation centers, accredited observers, and media practitioners before, during, and after the election.
However, the IGP issued a stern warning to political actors and potential troublemakers attempting to disrupt the democratic exercise.
”Ballot snatching, voter intimidation, political thuggery, and every other electoral offence will attract prompt arrest and prosecution,” the statement read.
The Police chief also reiterated the total ban on armed escorts, security aides, and unauthorized persons accompanying VIPs or political figures to polling units or collation centers on election day. Similarly, state-established security outfits, quasi-security groups, and private security organizations remain strictly barred from participating in election-security duties.
Reassuring residents, voters, and visitors in Osun State of adequate safety, the Nigeria Police Force urged all eligible citizens to exercise their franchise peacefully and without fear, maintaining that the Force remains committed to complete neutrality, professionalism, and the protection of human rights.
