It is no longer news that Musiliu Akinsanya has become the national president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

The famous transport union boss was sworn in on Monday, November 11, 2024.

His swearing-in followed the NURTW’s Board of Trustees ratifying his election by the Southwest region on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the regional secretariat in Osogbo, Osun state.

After his election, Oluomo, who was the sole candidate, hinted at the role Seyi Tinubu played in his emergence while giving a special thank you to his supporters.

Seyi Tinubu

He saluted Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, by name.

The transport union boss threw a salute when he mentioned Seyi Tinubu’s name.

Insiders explained that Seyi Tinubu was a behind-the-scenes rallying point in the election, providing the political backing to make it happen.

Sources say Adekunle Mustapha, the Lagos State Chairman of the NURTW, popularly known as Seego, served as the link between Tinubu and NURTW figures who mobilized the troops.

Seego

“Based on some special considerations, Seego had to put his differences with MC Oluomo aside and connect with Seyi Tinubu to make it happen,” sources said.

The involvement of the President’s son is described as a shrewd political move to maintain order within this vital sector of the nation’s road transportation system.

Seego and MC Oluomo had a fraught relationship due to the latter’s refusal to hand over control of the Lagos State chapter of the NURTW.

Seego mustered his political influence to take control in February 2024, a move that strained their rapport.

However, they put their differences aside to ensure the election proceeded, with Seyi Tinubu playing a pivotal role.

The development reaffirmed an earlier agreement that Seego would head the Lagos State chapter while MC Oluomo would succeed Ibikunle Baruwa as national president of the NURTW, despite their previous conflict.

They were once best friends, alongside another key figure, Sulaimon Ojora (alias Kudety or Kedeleti), who rose through the ranks to control the most profitable NURTW chapter in Lagos.

Together, they were decision-makers at the highest level before disagreements arose over leadership transitions.

Both Seego and MC Oluomo are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
