Why Insiders Say Gbenga Daniel Is “Teaching” Dapo Abiodun Ogun Politics
opposed to the former Governor’s ambition
The emerging talks in Ogun are that former Governor Gbenga Daniel is tutoring incumbent Dapo Abiodun on how to play politics in the state, particularly as regards who becomes the next Senator representing Ogun East.
Daniel, 66, is said to be showing why he remains one of the formidable political leaders in Ogun state with far-reaching moves to outwit Abiodun,61.
The incumbent Governor is opposed to the former Governor’s ambition to take over the Ogun East senatorial seat.

Abiodun’s conviction in his bid is strengthened by the return of re-election seeking Ogun East Senator Lekan Mustapha to his camp.
Mustapha,62, a former ally of Daniel with a good grasp of the politics of Ogun East left the camp of Amosun, a more passionate opponent of Abiodun to rejoin the Governor.
But insiders insist Daniel has taken bigger steps to achieve his senatorial ambition.
The rated politician has gone right to the heart of Abiodun’s political power to secure a favorable understanding SocietyNow.Ng learned.
Daniel is said to have secured a pact with Asiwaju Tinubu – who is Abiodun’s strongest backer.
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu wants to become the next President of Nigeria, and he is facing strong opposition from unexpected quarters.
The presidential aspirant is rallying old associates including Daniel to his cause.
“The senatorial ambition of Daniel fits into Tinubu’s agenda in the fight for the political ticket of their party (All Progressives Congres -APC) and the election proper” SocietyNow.Ng learned.

Aside from owning one of the strongest political structures in Ogun state, Daniel inherited Omo-Ilu (the natives) the most virile group – with a statewide network – of the opposition political party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Omo-Ilu had the late Kashamu Buruji as the founder and leader.
Added to the bargain is a virtually concluded alliance with Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the other very formidable political leader in Ogun state regarding who becomes the next Governor.
‘The alliance being worked out between Daniel and Amosun who is a presidential aspirant is mainly about the outcomes of local politics with support for Daniel’s senatorial ambition and helping Amosun install the next governor from a mutually agreed region playing determinant factors” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.
Further details have it that included in the mix are multiple claims that both Daniel and Abiodun share influence in the camp of the party leader in the state, Aremo Segun Osoba (also a former Governor of the state).
While the face of Tinubu in the politics of Ogun state and owner of the political structure most identifiable to Abiodun, Senator Yayi – the Lagos Senator aspiring to become Ogun Senator in 2023 – is discreetly hobnobbing with Daniel as part of an alleged plan to become Ogun governor in 2027.

“Many people admit they don’t see Daniel losing the Senatorial fight, All the heavyweights and major players across different levels in and out of the APC align with him and he thoroughly understands the terrain. The talks are that he is teaching Abiodun the ABC of Ogun politics with his moves.’ SocietyNow.Ng gathered.
Tinubu, Daniel, Abiodun, Mustapha, and Amosun including Yayi are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Abiodun came to power on borrowed political structures in 2019 – including that of Daniel – is reportedly taking steps to entrench himself as a political power as he guns for another term.
This move pitched him against the senatorial ambition of Daniel is said to have taken it upon himself to “teach the new governor the ABC of Ogun politics” with a resounding win.
Otunba Olugbenga Justus Daniel, credited with opening up the economy of Ogun state among other significant achievements during his two-term tenure of 8years, was the Governor of Ogun state from 29 May 2003 to May 2011.
