Emerging details have it that Governor Dapo Abiodun has moved against a former head of the Ogun state government – Gbenga Daniel.

SocietyNow.Ng gathered that Abiodun wants to stop the senatorial ambition of Daniel.

Daniel, 66, wants to become the Senator representing Ogun East in 2023.

The incumbent and former Governor are members of the same political party, All Progressives Congress (APC), and operate from the same senatorial district.

The former Governor (29 May 2003 – May 2011) has initiated to take over the APC senatorial ticket in Ogun East from the current holder, Lekan Mustapha.

But Abiodun,61, doesn’t want that SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

Governor Abiodun

While neck-deep in a battle to stop Senator Mustapha and others interested in becoming the next governor of Ogun State, Abiodun has launched initiatives to make one of his hardcore loyalists the Senator representing Ogun East in 2023.

“Abiodun and Daniel’s political interests no longer align” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

“Daniel is one of the most formidable politicians in Ogun state, he ranks among the very top. Becoming a Senator will further soar his influence to the detriment of the political might of Abiodun who came to power in 2019 on borrowed political structures including that of Daniel. The Governor is trying to correct that by planting his loyalists in key positions such as that of the Senator representing Ogun East” SocietyNow.Ng further learned.

Former Governor Daniel

The added information available revealed that it has not helped the relationship between them that Daniel is fingered as one of the leaders of the move to stop Abiodun’s re-election and went public with his Senatorial ambition without carrying the Governor along.

The Governor reportedly sent words through a “very respected third party” that the former Governor should drop his ambition that he already has another person penciled as the APC candidate for the Ogun East senatorial position.

The former Governor simply ignored the warning and carried on with his plan.

There are talks that the “person” Abiodun who is hunting for a second term in office wants to replace sitting Senator Lekan Mustapha is someone open to stepping down after a single term in 2027.

Senator Mustapha

“A proposition that will never fly with Daniel” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

More digs revealed that despite this undercurrent the two political leaders in Ogun State maintain a cosmetic openness of a “warm relationship”.

SocietyNow.Ng gathered that Daniel’s support for Abiodun went cold over the incumbent’s alleged approach to governance that has resulted in unfulfilled handshake agreements that brought him to power.
