The passing away of the immediate past Oniru in September 2019 made the throne vacant.

Akeem Ajasa, the Chief Personal Security Officer to Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila and multiple-term commissioner in Lagos state Aremo Adesegun Oniru emerged the front runners to succeed the late Oba Abiodun Oniru.

Aremo Oniru is the eldest son of the late Oniru and has the fierce backing of his brother Tijani and Ademola to take their father’s throne.

Aremo Oniru also enjoys the favor of powerful politician Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu – who is regarded as the voice in Lagos State.

Though the odds appear to favor Aremo Oniru, who has been groomed all his life to become the Oniru, reports emerged that Ajasa has been selected as the Oniru-Elect.

The reports which caught on as wildfire has however been punctured with a very strong-worded statement by other stakeholders in the Oniru clan urging fair play in deciding who becomes the new king of Iru land, situated in Victoria Island Lagos.

‘’False’’ an insider stated and explained ‘’I can tell you the story the selection of an Oniru-Elect is false. One of the ruling houses illegally chose a candidate and is attempting to pass it off as the choice of all in the public domain in an attempt to jump the gun in the succession race’’.

Societynow.ng gathered that the move has turned the race to determine the successor of the late Oba Idowu Abiodun Oniru into a messy one.

Checks by societynow.ng revealed that many watchers are looking towards powerful politician Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to weigh in before things turn ugly, with Oba of Lagos Rilwan Akiolu providing behind the scene counsel.

‘’Except something extraordinary happens, my bet is still on Aremo Oniru to become the next Oniru, especially with this ill-advised move by Prince Ajasa’’ a source stated.
