24hrs After, Family & Associates Still In Shock Over 12yrs Imprisonment Term Handed Orji Kalu

The checks made by societynow.ng revealed that Family and friends are still in shock over the  12years years’ imprisonment term slammed on the former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu – 24hours after the verdict.

Though some expected a verdict that would go against him nobody imagined a steep 12years imprisonment by the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos and presided over by Justice Mohammad Idris.

‘’I wasn’t expecting that’’, ‘’I was shocked’’ were the comments from some of the associates of Kalu who is the current Chief Whip of the Senate.

‘’I expected his membership of the ruling party and position as ranking member of the Senate would weigh in his favor more than this, it’s obvious I thought wrong’’ a source stated.

Kalu is currently held at Ikoyi Prison.

The judgment is the result of a 12years legal battle between the former governor and the state in a 27 counts charge N7.65billion corruption case.

Kalu, the Senator representing Abia North at the National Assembly is accused of corrupt enrichment when he served as the governor of Abia state.

Kalu and his accomplices, Udeh Udeogu – the former Director of Finance and Accounts at the Abia State Government House and Slok Nigeria, owned by the former governor were convicted of all the charges against them.

The judgment ordered that SLOK Nigeria Limited be liquidated and its assets forfeited to the Federal Government.
