Why Dep Gov Noimot Salako-Oyedele Is Being Touted For Ogun West Senate Seat
despite her ongoing bid to succeed Governor Dapo Abiodun
Emerging talks are linking Ogun State Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, to the Ogun West senatorial seat—despite her ongoing bid to succeed Governor Dapo Abiodun in 2027.
Abiodun will exit office that year after two terms, with Salako-Oyedele serving as his deputy.
Her governorship ambition was declared in late 2025 and has remained active.
Salako-Oyedele hails from Ogun West, a zone widely expected to produce the state’s next governor.
However, the incumbent senator, Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), is seen as the frontrunner.
While Adeola is from Yewa, Salako-Oyedele is from Ota—two blocs that often alternate in producing key political office holders.
The push positioning her for the Senate is driven largely by supporters of Adeola, who believe he will clinch the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Backed by one of the state’s strongest political structures, Adeola has also made inroads into Ogun Central, a major voting bloc, leveraging claims of maternal ancestry.
His sustained grassroots push has made him the candidate to beat.
Within his camp, the calculation is clear: Salako-Oyedele is better suited for the Ogun West senatorial seat than the governorship race in 2027.
