Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade appears to have dropped out of sight immediately after the March 18, 2023, gubernatorial election in Ogun state.

The former publicly proclaimed Wizkid by former former Senator Ibikunle Amosun was the running mate of the Ladi Adebutu, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the 2023 Ogun state gubernatorial election.

He stayed low profile even when Adebutu, who is challenging the re-election of Governor Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC), went on a self-imposed exile over alleged political persecution.

Sources disclosed that Akinlade’s positioning is intentional.

“He doesn’t want to be seen as reaping from the situation that forced Adebutu out of the country. He doesn’t want to be seen as gaining public recognition on the bill of Adebutu’s situation. He doesn’t want to give room for speculation and dark rooms that might pitch him against Adebutu” according to information here and there.

After Adebutu went on his self-exile, the Nigerian Police declared him a person of interest as part of the investigation into the anomalies that afflicted the 2023 Ogun state gubernatorial election.

Rather than take up the position of person-in-charge in the face of the development, Akinlade stayed off the glare.

Before he became the running mate of Adebutu for the 2023 gubernatorial election, Akinlade was the gubernatorial candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) for the 2019 election in Ogun state.

He was labeled “a Wizkid” ahead of his unveiling by Amosun who went all out in an unsuccessful attempt to make him successor after the latter’s two-term as the Governor of Ogun state.
