Hardcore supporters of Senator Ibikunle Amosun are in a happy mood over the situation with a former frontline member of their caucus, Adekunle Akinlade.

Akinlade left the political family of former Governor Amosun to become the deputy governorship candidate of the rival political party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 election in Ogun state.

But his joint ticket with Ladi Adebutu, the governorship candidate of the PDP has been canceled by the court based on a case instituted by 370 out of 728 on the INEC – Independent Electoral Commission – certified list of ad-hoc delegates elected in the ward congresses held on the 30th of April, 2022.

The aggrieved parties which secured the judgment at a Federal High Court in Abeokuta established allegations that they were prevented from voting during the May 25, 2022, PDP gubernatorial primary held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Library (OPL) Abeokuta because they would have voted for another aspirant, Jimi Lawal.

SocietyNow.Ng gathered that the perception is that should a fresh election be held within the stipulated period by the court – 14 days after ruling – using the INEC certified list, the possible outcome is apparent, if all the 370 ad-hoc delegates stick to their resolve.

“Staunch Amosun’s supporters attribute the situation with Akinlade to Karma (law of retributive justice) not really because of how he left the APC (All Progressives Congress) and Amosun but actions credited to him after” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

Emerging details have it that Akinalde is accused of orchestrating the “hijacking” of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) from Amosun by Adebutu to prevent the introduction of another challenger in the battle to take over the Ogun state government – particularly the gubernatorial seat.

APM was the political party Amosun utilized in the 2019 election, against all odds, in a failed bid to make Akinlade his successor as the Governor of Ogun State.

“Akinlade who joined PDP without informing Amosun reportedly helped Adebutu take over the APM as part of the deal. The move took away the most viable option to be politically relevant in the 2023 election in Ogun state available to Amosun and his supporters who have been sidelined in the APC by Governor Dapo Abiodun” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

Akinlade and Amosun in 2019

Governor Abiodun’s loyalists and allies hold the Ogun APC tickets to elective positions in the 2023 election in a move that left Amosun stranded. The fallout of a protracted political fight with roots in Amosun’s adamant stance to make Akinlade his successor in 2019.

“The plan for Amosun to cater for his loyalists in the 2023 election on the platform of APM, the alternative political party he is identified with was scuttled by Akinlade’s deal with Adebutu and the same treatment was reportedly meted out to Amosun when he attempted to use another party, Action Alliance (AA)” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

The back-to-back scuttling of Amosun’s plan to take care of his support base by Adebutu, leveraging Akinlade, reportedly did not go down well with the former governor’s hardcore supporters – but they chose to focus on actualizing the objective of getting an alternative party than engaging in a war that would make Akinlade and Adebutu more popular and seemingly powerful than they are according to information at hand.

“Interestingly Amosun and his men got another party while Akinlade and Adebutu got canceled as PDP candidates, a turn of things that are proving very heart gladdening for hardcore supporters of Amosun who labeled the development Karma at work” SocietyNow.Ng learned.
