After 31 years, the agency in charge of tourism development in Nigeria has been transformed.

The Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) set up in 1992- from the skeleton of the 1962 founded Nigerian Tourist Association (NTA) – transformed into the more robust Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA).

The milestone was achieved in February 2023 with Folorunsho Coker playing a lead role.

Coker was appointed the Director of the Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation in November 2017 and was re-appointed in April 2021, based on the massive impact he brought to bear is now the Director-General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority.

And all eyes are on him in the latest step to redefine the nation’s tourism industry.

SocietyNow.Ng’s checks revealed that based on how well he performed in the last 7years as the chief administrator of the Nation’s tourism sector, Coker has plenty of people rooting for him to excel.

One of the major aims of the NTDA is to achieve a more rewarding – and collaborative – national and international framework that would transform tourism into a major income earner for Nigeria – and all stakeholders

Information at hand revealed that aside from resuscitating widespread interest in the nation’s tourism sector, the Baba Eto of Yoruba – bestowed by the Ooni of Ife for exemplary character and inspiring achievements – Coker’s exploits have returned Nigeria to the top ranking in tourism’s global rating.

After more than a decade, the nation was elected to the Executive Council of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) at the 66th Commission for Africa Meeting held in Mauritius.

The development makes Nigeria part of the governing board charged with the responsibility of ensuring the world tourism body carries out its duties and oversees the budget.

This is against the background that Nigeria was awarded the vice president slot for the Commission for Africa (CAF).
