“What An Emotional Moment!” – Obaseki Shares Last Time With Public Servants As Governor
barely two days before the election of his successor
Godwin Obaseki has shared what he described as “what may well be the last time as Governor” with public servants in Edo State.
The Governor, who has spent eight years in office, serving two terms of four years each, revealed the meeting with government workers on September 19, 2024, barely two days before the election of his successor.

Obaseki shared the experience in a social media post, accompanied by the featured pictures.
He wrote: “What an emotional moment! Meeting with you, our public servants, for what may well be the last time as governor, I couldn’t help but express my profound gratitude for the tremendous progress we have made over the past eight years.

As a government, we have worked to make your lives better and more comfortable. We have been faithful in ensuring your remunerations and promotions. To enhance our efficiency and effectiveness, we transitioned from a paper-based system to a fully digitized, paperless platform on 1st September 2023.
Together, we have improved the wellbeing of Edo people through better roads, enhanced security, education, transportation, and much more, all aimed at making life better for them. Saturday’s election presents a watershed moment, offering us the opportunity to solidify our efforts and set the state on an even greater path forward.

Dr. Asue Ighodalo and our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), are best equipped to lead us on the pathway to prosperity for all Edo people. There are those who are unhappy with our achievements in public service, as these did not favor their selfish interests. We must not allow them to drag us backward.”

The election to determine the next Governor of Edo State will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024. Although more candidates are involved, it has been dubbed a three-horse race featuring Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asue Ighodalo of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP).
