Former senator Olugbenga Onaolapo Obadara has denied claims that he agreed to step down for former governor Ibikunle Amosun in the race for the APC senatorial ticket in Ogun Central.

In a statement on Sunday, Obadara described as “inaccurate and misleading” an account of the April 23 meeting held at the Abeokuta residence of Olusegun Osoba.

Responding to a release by Amosun’s media office, Obadara said he did not approach the former governor for support.

“It is on record that Senator Amosun personally called him to request an urgent meeting at his residence,” the statement said, adding that the invitation “was the genesis of his attendance.”

On the issue of the ticket, Obadara said he only declared his interest and never discussed stepping down.

“At no time did Senator Obadara volunteer to withdraw for Senator Amosun, nor was he asked to. Any suggestion that such a discussion took place is false,” the statement said.

He also dismissed claims of a broader agreement among aspirants.

“Senator Obadara is not aware of, and was not party to, any conversation where ‘three senatorial aspirants’ pledged to step down,” the statement added.

Obadara said he remains committed to the APC and will seek the support of party members in Ogun Central, insisting he “will not be pressured to step down through media statements.”
