VC Tells What ASR Africa Initiative’s N250M Projects Mean To University Formerly Occupied By Boko Haram

The Acting Vice Chancellor of the Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi, Dr. Stephen A. Lagu has revealed what the N250million worth of ultra-modern lecture theatre and other facilities donated by the Abdul Samad Rabiu (ASR) Africa Initiative to the higher institution symbolizes.

One of the largest charity initiatives by an individual in Africa founded by Abdul Samad Rabiu, the Chairman of the conglomerate at the forefront of creating value across different sectors of the economy, BUA Group, began the construction of a 500-capacity lecture theatre and wash facilities at the Adamawa State University (ADSU) on May 3, 2024.

“The groundbreaking ceremony symbolizes not just the physical construction of a 500 capacity lecture theatre along with four boreholes by Abdul Samad Rabiu Initiative, but also the foundation of hope for our public institutions that are in need of varieties of interventions” Vice Chancellor Stephen Lagu pointed out in his welcome address at the occasion.

The groundbreaking is the most recent initiation of high-impact projects across various higher institutions by ASR Africa as part of the N5.5 Billion grant to twenty-two (22) Universities under ASR Africa’s Tertiary Education Grant Scheme (TEGS).

Doctor Lagu who expressed deep appreciation to the Chairman of BUA Group and ASR Africa Initiative -Abdul Samad Rabiu for the “rare philanthropy gesture towards the university” further revealed that the projects ” will no doubt translate into reactivation of more academic activities Adamawa State University, which has been greatly affected by insurgent activities in 2014 and only university that was ransacked and occupied by the Boko Haram terrorists”.

The Vice-Chancellor assured that the projects, agreed to by the relevant organs of the institution with the ASR Africa team, will be “properly utilized and as well as safeguarded”.

The construction of the N250M lecture theatre and other facilities at ADSU adds to the list of other high-value projects by ASR Africa Initiative across different universities including the state-of-the-art hostel block for the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMinna), the N250 million College of Health Sciences Office Block for Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto State and the N250million Admin Block and a Conference Room for the Al-Qalam University, Katsina, the N1B Career Support & Cleaner Energy Solutions Center at the University of Ibadan, the N1 billion Naira Abdul Samad Rabiu International Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center at University of Maiduguri.
