BOT Of NURTW All Out To Stop Baruwa’s “National President” Claims
“we only have an interim arrangement headed by Alhaji Aliyu Issa Ore”
The leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) operating at its known address in Abuja is all out to stop Ibikunle Baruwa’s claim of being “National President”.
The leadership insists Baruwa”s tenure has ended and what it has in place is “an interim arrangement headed by Alhaji Aliyu Issa Ore”.
The NURTW made the declaration at an emergency meeting held on May 15, 2024, in Abuja insisting that the “only recognized headquarters of the union is the nee at Sapele street, Garki Abuja.”
The assertions made by the chairman of the Board of Trustees ( BOT) of the transport union, Alhaji Najeem Usman Yasin at the emergency meeting is on the heels of disclaimer on Baruwa calling on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to call him order.
Accusing Baruwa of misleading the public based on an industrial court judgement that has been upturned, Yasin who spoke on behalf of the BOT asserted that “when former president Baruwa got Judgement from National Industrial Court, we quickly appealed against and the court struck out the case for lack of jurisdiction, but to our surprise, former president, Baruwa has been going about sending wrong messages to our people that he is the authentic president
“I want to tell you that as today, we only have an interim arrangement headed by Alhaji Aliyu Issa Ore and that the only recognized headquarters of the union is the one at Sapele street, Garki Abuja.” said Alhaji Yasin addressed members present at the emergency meeting.
Labeling Baruwa as trying to manipulate everybody, Yasin added that he should”wait for outcome of the Court of Appeal before making any decision”.
The emergency meeting is the latest in a series of twist and turns over who is the National President of the NURTW.
Baruwa is fighting to retain his seat as National President while the BOT and other stakeholders insist his tenure.
The process to hold another election was on with former chairman of the NURTW in Lagos state, MC Oluomo (Musiliu Akinsanya) touted a leading aspirant until things became subject of litigation.
