Tinubu Insists On Major Order To Lagos APC Leaders Ahead Of Council Polls

Ahead of the July 12, 2025, local government elections in Lagos, President Bola Tinubu is insisting on a key directive to leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

The President has directed party leaders to ensure that the process produces the most popular candidates for the 57 chairmanship positions and 376 councillorship seats at stake.

And he is reportedly standing firm on this, sources say.

The primary elections to determine the APC candidates for the positions in the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas will be held on Saturday.

The APC has cleared 435 aspirants to contest for the 57 chairmanship tickets.

Sources disclosed that the President has taken a hard stance, insisting the party must field popular candidates to not only win this election but also lay a solid foundation to boost the party’s rating ahead of the 2027 general election.

Although he won the presidency by an overall margin, President Tinubu lost the 2023 election in Lagos.

It took a ferocious, last-minute campaign to ensure Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu secured a second term with an appreciable margin.
