The Ultimate Guide To Winning Your Ariya Repete 2019 Auditions
Ariya Repete 2019 is here and we are loving it!
The search for the next Fuji, Juju, and Yoruba hip-hop star is well on the way, and auditions have been held across 6 locations. With just two more auditions left before the quarter-final, now is the best time to take all the lessons learnt from these contests and use them to your advantage when Ariya Repete comes to town.
So if you’re in Ilesha or Osogbo, and you’re looking to take a shot at this year’s edition of Ariya Repete, you’re in luck. Here’s the ultimate rule book to acing your Ariya Repete auditions.
Know your vocal strength
It is important that you know your vocal strengths (or lack thereof) prior to your audition. This is not necessarily knowing your flat or high keys, nor shouting, pitching or modulating vocal frequencies, but knowing if you can tune your vocal cords to produce that innate vocal sound predominantly associated with Fuji and Juju music. Fuji and other indigenous singers are often identified by their voices, they produce sounds that are sweet, effortless and smooth, like a hot knife cutting through butter. Your ability to dazzle in this regard is a major advantage.
Light up the Stage with Confidence and Energy
For the duration of your performance, the stage is yours and yours alone, make full use of it. Be confident and energetic. Don’t be afraid to show some dance moves as you deliver the “Ariya” in you, to your audience.
Note: This doesn’t mean hopping around the stage aimlessly! But adding a little groove to your performance will do you a world of good.
Engage Your Audience
Be smart to read the audience and judges. You should know when to up the tempo, spot their responses and make adjustment as you proceed with your performance. If you notice the response is great at a particular tune of your rendition, there’s no harm staying there as long as you can sustain the energy and tempo.
Make an Impression
Making an impression is very pivotal in any audition, it’s the core of every performance. One of the easiest ways of making an impression at the Ariya Repete regionals is through the lyrics of your songs. Juju and other south-western indigenous genres of music are typically aimed at passing a message to an audience. The message doesn’t have to be “deep” or overly complicated. It only has to be simple and relatable.
So makes sure your songs carry meaningful content and context.
Have a Good Time Performing
As much as you want to entertain the teeming audience and judges, also remember to be entertained yourself. That is what Ariya Repete stands for, there’s enough celebration to go around. It’s important you loosen up, put on that excellent smile, and enjoy your performance. Don’t worry, the audience would catch your vibe, it’s contagious.
There you have it! Hopefully, these tips would help you feel better prepared for your audition, and who knows, you just may be the next Fuji, Juju or Yoruba hip-hop star.
Head out to White plain suites, Ilorin and Savanah hotel, Osogbo on the 3rd of July to partake in the final auditions of Ariya Repete 2019.
Good luck!
