Supporters of Governor Dapo Abiodun have sparked fresh speculation about his next political move, declaring him the leading contender for the Ogun East Senate seat in 2027.

Over the weekend, social media buzzed with posts hailing the governor as “the people’s choice” for the position.

The campaign-style messages quickly drew mixed reactions and pushback from supporters of Senator Gbenga Daniel, the incumbent and former governor, who has already declared his intention to retain the seat.

What began as harmless online excitement has since morphed into heated exchanges and personal attacks between supporters of both political figures.

The growing tension has further exposed the rift between Abiodun and Daniel — a rivalry that traces back to the period following Abiodun’s first-term election in 2019.

As Ogun East politics heats up ahead of 2027, the battle for the senatorial seat is already shaping into a major faceoff between two of the state’s most influential political actors.
