Taiwo Afolabi’s Port & Cargo’s New RTGs Arrive During NPA Boss, Abdullahi’s Courtesy Visit To Tin Can Island

The management of Ports and Cargo Handling Services limited, the ports operation arm of SIFAX GROUP have taken delivery of 5 additional RTGs at the terminal.

With this development- the company owned by celebrated Nigerian, Taiwo Afolabi just fulfilled pledge to uplift quality of services in it’s sphere of operation.

Incidentally, the vessel (Happy Rover) bearing these equipment was coming to berth on the same day the new Managing Director of Nigeria Ports Authority(Malam Habib Abdullahi) team paid a courtesy call at Tin Can Island Port; the team actually watched the vessel coming in to berth at the terminal laden with the 5 nos. RTGs on board.

It will be recalled that on 27th September,
Taiwo Afolabi 2012 when the first set of 5 nos. RTGs was commissioned, the Managing Director of Ports & Cargo (Mr. John R. Jenkins) in his speech stated categorically that these equipment will come in to boost operations and increase the terminal capacity from 5,000 TEUS at inception to 14,000 TEUS.

With the arrival and deployment of these equipment, operational efficiency and effectiveness will be enhanced tremendously thereby improving the turnaround of vessels in the terminal.

‘Complemented with the deployment of the new Oscar tracking system and various other resources being put in place, the terminal layout and operations will now compete with the best in the industry’. An insider assured.
