Suspected Killers Of Globacom Boss, Mike Adenuga’s In-law Tajudeen Disu Gets Bail

Information filtering in revealed that some of the suspected killers of Tajudeen Disu, the murdered in law of globacm boss, Mike Adenuga have been granted bail.

Hitting town with details of this development, Punch reports that …Fifteen of the suspects arrested by the police for the alleged murder of the Managing Director of the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Alhaji Tajudeen Disu, have been admitted to bail by an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court.

Two others were exonerated, while four were remanded and charged by the police for the murder of the victim.

PUNCH Metro had reported that Disu was killed by a mob in the Ibeju-Lekki area of the state during a protest by the community against the management of the Free Trade Zone, on October 12, 2015.

He was said to have been attacked and killed after he tried to intervene.

Our correspondent reported that the police arrested and arraigned 17 suspects before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ court, who were all remanded pending the conclusion of investigations by the police.

Two of the 17 suspects – Alh. Tajudeen Jegede (68) and Chief Kayode Raufu (60) – were discharged by the court on Monday.

The men were discharged after the prosecution team, led by Mr. Cyril Ejiofor, from the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, informed the court that they were exonerated by the investigation conducted by the police.

The 15 other accused persons – Saidi Akanni, Raufu Agunreje, Sunday Bulus, Taiwo Oyelade, Abiola Ogunsanwo, Stephen Okuriaye, Taiwo Gafar, Banji Agunrege, Ahmed Gafar, Moses Okoro, Talabi Onadri, Ipaye Oriyomi, Yusuf Quadri, Lord Lugard and Anthony Agbogie – were arraigned before the Chief Magistrate, Afolashade Botoku, on six counts of rioting and unlawful assembly.

The police alleged that the men had on October 12, at about 9am, conspired to commit the alleged offences.

The police prosecutor, Ejifor, said, “The offences are punishable under sections 409, 45, 410 and 44 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.”

The accused persons, who were mainly fishermen, technicians and motorcyclists pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Botoku, admitted them to bail in the sum of N50, 000 each, with one surety each in like sum and adjourned the trial till December 21.

However, the court ordered the remand of three men and a woman, in prison custody, over Disu’s murder.

They are: Jaiye Dele, Tunde Ismaila, Shakirat Agbaje and Oshinowo Olalekan.

In a remand application, the prosecutor informed the court that the application was brought before the court pursuant to Section 246(1)(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice of Lagos State, 2011.

“We have an application for the remand of the defendants in prison custody pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. The request is brought sequent to Section 264 (1) (2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011,” he added.

However, the counsel for the four defendants, Mr. A. Usman, urged the court to discountenance the application, said the prosecution failed to show probable cause why his clients should be remanded.

He, therefore, urged the court to grant bail to the four defendants.

However, Botoku upheld the remand application and ordered that the four defendants be remanded in custody pending the release of the legal advice.

She ordered the police to duplicate the case file and forward same to the DPP’s office for legal advice.

The matter was adjourned till December 21.

Meanwhile, a five-man tribunal set up by the Lagos State Government to probe the circumstances surrounding the October 12 mayhem and the death of Disu commenced sitting on Monday.

The chairman of the panel, Justice Adesuyi Olateru-Olagbegi (retd.), said the state governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, set up the panel pursuant to the provisions of Section 1(1) Tribunal of Enquiry Law Cap T6 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2003.

Olateru-Olagbegi said the panel was determined to unravel the remote and immediate causes of the October 12 public disorder in order to forestall a recurrence and called for the cooperation of the members of the public without which the tribunal could not achieve its objective.

In his own address at the panel’s inaugural sitting, which held on the premises of the Lagos State Law Reforms Commission, Ikeja, the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, pledged the state government’s support to the tribunal and urged the members to be fearless.

He said, “The tribunal must be fearless and ensure that everybody has a chance to ventilate their observations and suggestions.

“Lagos is the commercial hub of Nigeria and indeed Africa. It cannot condone these disturbances at all.

“The government is therefore looking for a lasting solution to ensure this never happens again.”
