Lagos State has a shadow governor and it is Babajide Sanwo-Olu the governor-elect.

The governor in waiting is already walking the walk and talking the talk and leaving no one in doubt it’s only a formal handover that is delaying him from recognition as the man to get things done.

Barely twenty-four hours after Governor Akinwunmi Ambode visited the Ita Faaji site of the collapsed three-story building that resulted in the death of about twelve persons, Governor-elect Babajide Sanwo-Olu surfaced at the scene.

Governor Ambode expressed sadness at the tragedy that befell Lagos and gave his word that the state would take care of the bills for the treatment of the victims.

The governor also assured that all those responsible for the tragedy would be brought to book but that is ‘’on the secondary level’’ he explained.

Insisting the immediate objective is to rescue trapped victims and rescue as much as possible while caring for the survivors, Ambode branded the school which operated on the second floor of the collapsed building as ‘’illegal’’.

The school was in session when the building collapsed.

Ambode visited the site of the tragedy on the day it happened, Wednesday, March 13, 2019.

On his visit, Sanwo-Olu insisted ‘’We need to put factors in place to ensure we avoid such occurrences and I will be committed to doing this’’.

‘’The statement is pregnant with meaning if you look at it beyond the surface value’’ a source pointed out to societynow.ng.

Sanwo-Olu who interacted with rescue workers at the scene and visited victims at the hospital praised the community, rescue workers, health personnel and state government for efforts at handling the situation.

The Governor-Elect also shared pictures – and thoughts – from the visits on his social media handles.
