Rulers, Leaders In Funke Akindele’s Hometown Back Sanwo-Olu’s Re-Election

The traditional rulers and leaders in the hometown of the deputy governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)  for the 2023 election in Lagos state have announced the decision to support the second-term bid of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress.

Funke Akindele is the deputy governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos state. The actress who hit the big break with the role, Jennifer, in the movie Jennifer is from Ikorodu, Lagos state.

She is contesting the 2023 election on a joint ticket with Jide Adediran, the Governorship candidate popularly known as Jandor.

Traditional rulers and leaders in Akindele’s hometown made their position known over the weekend at the investiture ceremony of Governor Sanwo-Olu as the Grand Patron of Oriwu Club in Ikorodu on Sunday, December 11, 2022.

“They said they are satisfied with the performance of Governor Sanwo-Olu in the last three and half years of his first term in office and therefore they will work tirelessly to ensure that he is re-elected in 2023.” SocietyNow.Ng learned.

The Ayangburen of Ikorodu, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabiru Sotobi; a member of the Senate representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, President, Oriwu Club Ikorodu, Otunba Adekunle Oduborisa and his vice, Hon. Ola Animasahun reported led the charge in making the position of the leaders of that part of Lago state known.

Their position was buoyed by APC leaders in the area who promised to deliver Ikorodu to the governor and other APC candidates in next year general elections by scoring 300 votes in each of the polling units in Ikorodu Local Government Area in a meeting with ceremony after the investiture ceremony.

“They said their plan is to deliver 205,000 votes out of the targeted four million votes for Governor Sanwo-Olu to be re-elected.” SocietyNow.Ng learned.

Sanwo-Olu retains deputy governor Obafemi Hamzat on the ballot in the hunt for second term in office.

The  Ikorodu-based social club, Oriwu Club, houses major players in the zone and is home to decision-makers across social-cultural divides.
