Renewed Hope: Remi Tinubu Empowers Women Farmers In Osun State

In her tireless efforts to ensure Women are on the front line of food production in the country, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has flagged off the “Renewed Hope Initiative” for Women in agriculture in south-west, a support programme and social investment for Women and People living with disabilities.

Osun state First Lady, Her Excellency, Chief Mrs Titilola Adebusola Adeleke of Osun state and her counterparts from other states of the south-western states graced the occasion at the Cultural Center, Abeokuta, on Tuesday April 16th, 2024.

The intervention in agriculture becomes very imperative as a major way by the government to empower women in the country, address unemployment and combat food insecurity facing us as a nation. A sensitization programme on the importance of Women in Agriculture was held in Osun last year to re-awake the actively agile women on the need to participate in agriculture. The campaign led by the elegant First Lady of Osun state, Chief Mrs Titilola Adeleke has generated reciprocation by the Wives of Local Government Chairmen across all local councils and area offices of Osun.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu by demonstration of her commitment towards better livelihood for Women ans people with disability announced the sum of N500,000 each for Twenty Farmers in each of the South-West states comprising of Osun, Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti and N100,000 for 100 people living with disabilities in each state.

She assured more investments in Women development, while enjoining the beneficiaries of the initiative to make good use of the gesture for food sufficiency and security in their respective states

Speaking at the occasion, the First Lady and the State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) in Ogun State, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun in her welcome address noted that the initiative is to celebrate and empower Women in agriculture, commending Nigeria’s First Lady for sponsoring students with interest in agriculture to Belarus for more studies.

The South-West Zonal Coordinator for the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) and the wife of the Oyo State Governor, Her Excellency, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, noted that the support program would assist women in agriculture thereby improving the agriculture sector of the states, urging the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the support by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
