Why Tinubu Calls Remi “My Truest Friend And Confidante”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday described his wife, Oluremi, as his “truest friend and confidante,” praising her patience, courage, honesty and unwavering support as she celebrated her 66th birthday.

In a birthday message to the First Lady, Tinubu said Oluremi had remained by his side through difficult and uncertain periods, providing counsel and emotional support throughout their years together.

“You have stood by my side through every season,” the President said, adding that burdens he had to bear often found their way onto her shoulders, while thoughts he could not express “somehow found their way to you.”

Tinubu further disclosed Oluremi’s ability to speak frankly to him was one of the qualities he cherished most about her.

“I call you my truest friend and confidante because you speak the truth plainly, even on the days I would rather not hear it,” he declared.

According to him, the First Lady often knew when he needed counsel before he asked for it, noting that there were times when “your presence alone was counsel enough.”

Reflecting on their marriage, the President said their home had been shaped by Oluremi’s devotion, while their children and grandchildren had grown under the influence of her faith and values.

“Our children and grandchildren have grown beneath the shelter of your prayers. They carry your values of faith and kindness wherever life takes them,” the Nigerian leader shared.

Tinubu also acknowledged Oluremi’s public humanitarian activities, citing her work through the New Era Foundation and the Renewed Hope Initiative.

He said her efforts had touched young people, widows, elderly citizens and women farmers, while she had also advocated for people affected by tuberculosis and other diseases.

“Nigerians know you for your compassion, kindness, generosity of spirit and steadfast faith,” he included.

The President said Oluremi’s compassion had extended beyond ethnic, regional and religious boundaries, noting that she had helped people she had never met and prayed for others whose names she might never know.

Reflecting on their long journey together, Tinubu said they had faced difficult decisions and sacrifices that were largely unseen by others.

“A long journey teaches a man the true value of a good partner. We have travelled a long road together,” he further revealed.

The President added, “If life returned me to the beginning, I would choose the same road that led me to you. Through every mile, my heart has always remained at home with you.”

And, thanked the First Lady for the life they had built together and prayed that she would enjoy many more years in good health and happiness.

“Happy 66th birthday, my darling Oluremi. I pray that God Almighty will grant you many more years in good health and joy,” he celebrated his heart-throb.
