Police Gives Update On Tinubu’s Directive To Withdrawal Officers From VIP Escort Duties
to channel manpower toward core policing responsibilities.
The Nigeria Police Force has said it has achieved what it described as a high level of compliance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive ordering the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP escort and guard duties.
This followed a nationwide order by the President directing security agencies to channel manpower toward core policing responsibilities.
In Lagos, a special enforcement team set up by the Force Headquarters on Saturday, December 6, 2025, carried out a monitoring exercise across major flashpoints including the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and other strategic locations.
The team reported that between 10:00 a.m. and the close of the operation, no police officer was found violating the directive by providing unauthorised escort services to VIPs.
The Force added that no arrests were made as no infractions were recorded.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the commitment of the Force to fully implement the presidential directive.
He stated that the police remain determined to redeploy officers to core security duties aimed at improving public safety, crime prevention, and the protection of lives and property nationwide.
The Force also assured the public that the enforcement of the withdrawal policy would continue across all states without exception and urged Nigerians to support ongoing reforms targeted at strengthening professional and citizen-focused policing.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, issued the statement on behalf of the Force Headquarters in Abuja on December 6, 2025.
