Inside details have it that there is a lot of political re-alignment going on in Ogun state.

And, part of the development is an unraveling agenda to help Iyabo, the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, to return as a Senator in Ogun State.

Iyabo Obasanjo is a former commissioner – in the Government of ex-Governor Gbenga Daniel – and later Senator in Ogun State, whose generosity and touching life gestures earned her the famous slogan “Kosi omo bi Iyabo” (No child – in this case, person – like Iyabo).

She represented Ogun Central in the Senate from June 52007 to June 6, 2011, as a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), but was denied a second term as a result of stiff opposition crystallized by her influential father, former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The development manifested a famous bust-up with her father after which she quitted politics and relocated abroad. The former Senator later made up with her father but remained abroad.

Insiders, however, the former President’s daughter appears to be on her way back to resume active politicking in Ogun state.

The talks are that there are advanced talks for her to revive her political structure and contest for the Ogun Central Senatorial position in 2027.

The move is described as part of the alignment of political interests in determining who controls the government and politics of Ogun state after the 2027 general election.

The Ogun Central Senatorial position was exited by former Governor Ibikunle Amosun – who refused to seek another term because of his presidential ambition – in 2023 and is currently occupied by Afolabi Shaibu, a hardcore loyalist of Governor Dapo Abiodun.
