Omoluabi Progressives, the political group founded by former Governor Rauf Aregbesola, says more supporters have joined the “talk of the town” in Osun State.

The group released pictures from the recent induction of new members from areas listed as Egbedore, Ola-Oluwa, Ilesa East, Obokun, Oriade, Atakunmosa East, Iwo, and Ejigbo local government areas.

A statement signed by the Organising and Publicity Secretary, Abosede Oluwaseun, disclosed that over 200 members from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Action Democratic Party (ADP) joined during the ongoing tour of the State Coordinating Team to council areas.

The development comes barely three weeks after 300 members joined from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the ruling party in the state, People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Chairman of the group, Azeez Adesiji, who was delighted with the caliber of the new members, declared that “efforts are in top gear to facilitate the entry of other competent grassroots politicians who are grounded in local politics, just as top politicians in the state are concluding plans to pledge their allegiance with the caucus,” according to the statement dated Friday, October 18, 2024.

He added that “our membership registration so far has been more than impressive,” but insisted, “we can do a lot more. Let us not relent. Victory is assured.”

Omoluabi Progressives, which gave former Governor Aregbesola and his supporters a new political reckoning in Osun State after an infighting that diminished their influence in the All Progressives Congress (APC), is seeking to produce the next Governor of Osun State in 2026.

Though labeled an “audacious ambition,” the growing popularity, influence, and network of the group, also known as “Tendency,” have started giving political rivals, especially familiar foes in the APC, cause for concern.

With Aregbesola—credited with making the APC popular in Osun—as the lead figure, Omoluabi Progressives boasts other masters of grassroots mobilization, including former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and ex-gubernatorial candidate Moshood Adeoti; former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Najeem Salami; ex-APC State Secretary, Rasaq Salinsile; former Commissioner, Kunle Ige; former PDP mobilizer, Najeem Adurolu, and others.
