Osun Youths Battle Elders Over Gov Aregbesola’s Successor

A coalition of progressive youths in the State of Osun under the umbrella of Osun Progressive Youths Alliance, OPYA has called on all the organs of the All Progressives Congress in the State of Osun to jettison the idea of zoning the governorship contest to a particular zone in the state and allow for a robust contest that will allow superior ideas and capacity to guarantee growth and development of the party and the State.

This was contained in a statement released on Wednesday by the Coordinating Head of the youths alliance, Comrade Adeboye Adebayo in Osogbo.

According to him, zoning of political positions is the idea of lazy minds who are afraid of robust contests, saying such an idea will retard the soaring profile of the party, APC and growth and development being witnessed at the moment in the State of Osun.

“All Progressives Congress is a coalition of different political groups and interests and this is the first time there will be a serious gubernatorial contests under the platform, the second term of Ogbeni Aregbesola came at the formative stage of the party hence every interested individuals should be allowed to put whatever ideas they have for the growth of the State on the table and allow the party to decide who flies its flags according to the laid down rules of the party’s constitution. Hence, zoning should be outrightly jettisoned as it is alien to our party constitution” Adebayo said.

The Coordinating Head of the youths alliance noted that all the senatorial zones of the state are boastful of great minds who are full of renewed ideas and none should be sacrificed on the altar of zoning as the progress of the state is paramount and anyone with better workable ideas and planning should be allowed to lead the people. He said further that what should occupy the minds of the lovers of the state now is how to take Osun to the next level of growth and development.

“Zoning will breed animosity, zoning will deprive our State of the best in terms capacity for growth & development. Zoning will deprive our party of funds as more funds will be generated for the party if the contest is thrown open. Zoning will breed unfairness and inequalities, hence it should be jettisoned”. He said.

He then urged the leaders, elders of the party and all other organs of the party to be concerned with the future of the State in terms of economic development which alone can guarantee a better future for the youths.
