The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi is about to increase the numbers of the holders of the chieftaincy title of Maiyegun.

The Alaafin of Oyo Oba Lamidi Adeyemi installed Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Anifowoshe ( more popularly known as KWAM1 or K1)as the Maiyegun General of Yoruba land.

The Alaafin caused a stir when he said the holder of the title should not prostrate to give ‘’some kings’’ – as stipulated by custom and tradition – while insisting the position is bigger than some thrones.

The statement attracted a bit of controversy as custodian – and lovers – of cultures frown at the claim by the Alaafin.

Senior lawyer Kayode Ajulo got decorated as Maiyegun (Aare Ona Kakanfo ) by Iba Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba.

Both Ajulo and Kwam1 have given prominence to the chieftaincy title of Maiyegun.

Interestingly Alaafin installed Iba Gani Adams as the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land.

Whispers filtering out has it that Ooni of Ife is currently considering ‘’worthy candidates’’ for the position of Maiyegun of Ife or the source concerning his domain, Ile-Ife’s recognition as the ‘’source’’ of Yoruba heritage.

The information at hand has it that consultation is going on by the ‘’Palace of the Ooni’’ to determine who fits to be decorated with the ‘’Maiyegun of the Source’’ chieftaincy title.

Informant claim one of the consideration is that the candidate must measure more than, if he does not dwarf, the popular title holders installed by the Alaafin and Aare Ona Kakanfo.
