“The Lagos State Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Dayo Alebiosu, has revealed the one lesson that has become a permanent part of his approach to public service.

The politician, well-known for his strong grasp of grassroots politics, describes it simply as “leadership is service.”

The popular Lagos State cabinet member, known as D’Bush, disclosed that he learned this largely from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

“Watching how he leads Lagos with empathy, vision, and a people-first mindset has reshaped how I show up,” Alebiosu — credited with propelling Lagos into a high-octane phase of waterfront infrastructure development since assuming office in September 2023 — said.

Backed by Governor Sanwo-Olu, the commissioner is currently deep in preparations for Lagos State’s first-ever Waterfront Stakeholders Summit September 12 2025.

Planned to highlight the growing environmental threats along the state’s expansive waterfronts and the urgent need for collective action, the summit is expected build partnerships that lead to lasting impact, boost the gains recorded so far.

Pointing out that leadership, for him, is “not about position, but purpose,” D’Bush declared he is always reminded to “lead with intention, serve with heart, and build with others in mind,” insisting that “Lagos deserves nothing less.”

A grassroots politician and trained architect, Alebiosu first made waves in office by enforcing Lagos’s waterfront laws — issuing stop-work orders along Banana Island and Gracefield, seizing three unlicensed dredgers, and prosecuting six illegal operators in mobile courts.

By mid-2024, he had overseen the award and construction of thirteen new jetties, some already nearing completion, with handover scheduled to the Lagos State Waterways Authority.

He also quietly launched the Lagos Waterfront Regeneration Project, transforming neglected shorelines into vibrant cultural, commercial, and recreational nodes — an initiative state media described as “revitalising economies and creating jobs in areas once forgotten” — as part of his far-reaching waterfront revolution.
