Polaris Bank has dismissed reports alleging multiple deaths in a fire incident at the car park of its Broad Street Branch in Lagos, assuring customers and the public that there were no casualties or fatalities.
In a statement issued by its management, the bank said the incident occurred at the branch’s car park and originated from a customer’s vehicle parked on the third-floor section of the facility.
According to the bank, emergency response procedures were immediately activated, while firefighters responded promptly to the scene, leading to the swift containment of the fire before it could escalate.
“A fire incident occurred today (Thursday, June 18, 2026) at the car park of our Broad Street Branch, Lagos, originating from a customer’s vehicle parked on the 3rd-floor car park,” the statement said.
And, further explained, “the fire was swiftly contained following the activation of our emergency response procedures and the prompt intervention of firefighters.”
The bank stressed that contrary to claims circulating online, no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded during the incident.
“We confirm that there were no casualties or fatalities,” the statement added.
Polaris Bank specifically refuted reports alleging that more than 34 persons were feared dead, describing such claims as false and misleading.
“Reports claiming that over 34 persons were feared dead are false and misleading. Investigations into the incident are ongoing,” the bank declared.
Providing a further update, the bank reiterated that the situation had been brought under control and expressed appreciation to emergency responders for their swift intervention.
“Following the fire incident at the Car Park of our Broad Street Branch, Lagos, we are pleased to confirm that the situation was swiftly contained and, thankfully, there were no casualties or fatalities,” the bank assured.
The financial institution also urged members of the public to disregard unverified reports and rely on credible news sources as well as its official communication channels for accurate information regarding the incident.
“We urge the public to rely only on credible news platforms and our official channels for accurate information and disregard false reports circulating online,” the statement urged.
The bank further thanked emergency responders, members of staff, customers and other stakeholders for their support and cooperation while efforts to manage the situation were underway.
