Leaving No Chances – Insiders Reveal Adebutu’s Role In PDP’s Push To Win Remo Rep By-Election
the chief sponsor of the PDP in Ogun Stat
Sources say Ladi Adebutu is leaving nothing to chance in the push by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to win the Remo Federal House of Representatives seat on August 16, 2025.
The seat became vacant following the shocking death of Adewunmi Onanuga in January 2025.
Onanuga, who was also the Deputy Chief Whip of the Federal House of Representatives, was a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Saturday, August 16, 2025, is the date fixed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the by-election to determine her replacement.
While the APC has chosen female politician Sola Ayoola-Elegbeji — a “fresh face” — as its candidate for the race, the PDP has opted for Oluwole Bolarinwa, the flagbearer who went against the late Onanuga in the 2023 election.
The PDP had disputed Onanuga’s 2023 victory, insisting that Bolarinwa won the election but was unable to prove it.
Fielding the same candidate for the August 16 by-election is being touted as another opportunity to validate that claim.
“And Adebutu is not leaving anything to chance. He is fully in charge of the campaign, running things firmly,” insiders insist.
Adebutu is the chief sponsor of the PDP in Ogun State, and Remo Federal Constituency — made up of Ikenne, Remo North, and Sagamu — is his primary political base.
Interestingly, the same federal constituency is also the political base of Governor Dapo Abiodun, who is the official leader of the APC in Ogun State.
To add to the equation, Abiodun and Adebutu are embroiled in a political enmity that has evolved into a personal feud.
Although Adebutu is credited with a stronger grassroots following, he is yet to get the better of Abiodun in any direct — or indirect — political contest since 2019, when the latter became governor.
Every one of Abiodun’s victories has been vigorously contested by Adebutu — including the 2023 Ogun State governorship election, in which they flew the flags of their respective political parties.
It was a testy contest in which Abiodun secured re-election by a margin of less than fifteen thousand votes.
