Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN has reaffirmed his commitment to support Akwa Ibom State complete its Maintainance Repair and Overhaul ( MRO) facility.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today with Seun Okinbaloye yesterday, Mr Keyamo said since there was no such facility in West Africa, it was imperative to finish this project on time to reduce the financial stress on airlines and attract foreign exchange to the country.

According to him ” Having an MRO is very important, it will do a lot for the industry. Some of the flight delays we have happen because airlines send their aircraft abroad for checks. So, if we have an MRO facility, the turn around time will be quicker.

” Also, since these airlines have to source for foreign exchange for this service, there will be reduced pressure on foreign exchange and the cost of the service will be cheaper”.

He also highlighted the fact that an MRO facility would also help attract foreign exchange to the country.

Though he said the Federal Government was working on its own MRO facility, he revealed that he was impressed with the Akwa Ibom State-owned facility located in Uyo and will do all to ensure it is completed in record time.

Mr Keyamo noted that the aviation industry under his watch will witness significant improvement, such as commissioning a master plan for all the five international airports, purchase of equipment, and more.
