Gov Eno To Lead Democracy Dialogue As Yoruba Tennis Club Marks Centenary

The Yoruba Tennis Club will on Thursday, August 6, commemorate its centenary with a landmark lecture on democracy and good governance, bringing together President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State and other distinguished Nigerians for a high-level conversation on the nation’s democratic future.

The lecture, themed “Democracy and the Imperative of Good Governance: Renewing Hope in Challenging Times,” will be delivered by Governor Umo Eno at the Greetings Hall of the Yoruba Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos, as one of the flagship events marking the Club’s 100th anniversary.

The event is being held under the distinguished patronage of President Tinubu, who is the Patron of the Yoruba Tennis Club, while Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will serve as Vice Patron. Chairman of the Club’s Board of Trustees, Alhaji Dr. Femi Okunnu, CON, SAN, is also expected to play a prominent role at the occasion.

According to a statement issued by the Akwa Ibom State Government on Monday, Governor Eno is expected to provide insights into the role of democratic leadership and good governance in addressing contemporary national challenges.

The governor will also outline how his administration’s ARISE Agenda is strengthening democratic governance, promoting sustainable development and delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Akwa Ibom State.

The statement described the Centenary Lecture as one of the major highlights of the Club’s celebration of 100 years of promoting excellence, tradition, fellowship, leadership and service to society.

It said the event would attract eminent personalities from government, business, academia, the diplomatic community and civil society to reflect on the future of democratic governance and nation-building in Nigeria.

Chairman of the Yoruba Tennis Club and Centenary Planning Committee, Bro. Engr. Olawunmi Gasper, said Governor Eno was chosen as Guest Speaker in recognition of what he described as the governor’s remarkable accomplishments and his administration’s developmental trajectory over the past three years.

He said the lecture would provide “a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue on leadership, development, and the future of Nigeria’s democracy while celebrating a century of excellence.”

The Akwa Ibom State Government, in the statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, thanked the leadership of the Yoruba Tennis Club for inviting Governor Eno to deliver the landmark lecture.

It described the invitation as a demonstration of the Club’s confidence in the governor’s leadership and the impact of the ARISE Agenda, adding that it reflected the growing national recognition of his administration’s commitment to good governance, inclusive development and democratic ideals.

The government also congratulated the Yoruba Tennis Club on attaining its centenary, wishing the Club continued success as it begins its second century of promoting excellence, unity and leadership.
