Details available revealed that Otunba Gbenga Daniel has been contacted to join the movement within the All Progressives Congress to back Senator Lekan Mustapha as a replacement for Governor Dapo Abiodun ahead of the 2023 general election.

This is despite widespread conviction the Governor is looking forward to a second term in office.

Societynow.ng learned that members of different groups – especially, those that defected from other political parties to help APC win the last gubernatorial election whos are disenchanted that Governor Abiodun has not rewarded their efforts have aligned and started working against his re-election.

Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of Ogun state played a prominent role in the series of political maneuvers that helped Abiodun to power, including pulling own formidable political structure from the People’s Democratic Party into the APC to help Abiodun fend of ferocious antagonism from party man and outgoing governor, Ibikunle Amosun.

Insiders disclosed aggrieved members of the Gbenga Gbenga Daniel’s camp are spearheading the emerging coalition against Governor Abiodun to make Senator Mustapha the candidate of the APC for the 2023 gubernatorial election.

“And they have called on Daniel to lend his weight to the cause, they want him to lead the charge against Abiodun just like he did for him against Amosun” an insider disclosed.

Insiders, however, disclosed that the experienced politician – and political strategist -has not “openly committed” to the move.

“But neither has he outright stopped it. He understands the implication of been caught on the wrong side of the strong sentiments of his followers.” a source pointed out.

“There are however those that believe the former governor has given tacit support to the anti-Abiodun sentiment and bidding his time to see whether it will force a change from the governor or not before making his position known” a source disclosed.

Keen followers of event, however,  insist it would be a tragic irony if the “collation of political forces” that helped Abiodun to power cut-short his gubernatorial ambition and not the unrelenting – fierce – friend turned foe they saved him from, immediate past governor Ibikunle Amosun.
